F.R.A.M.E. (facial remote activity monitoring eyewear) An inconspicuous, non-invasive, mobile sensor device for real-time control of assistive technologies through facial expression.

Facial paralysis results in weakness of the facial muscles, typically on one side of the face, affecting the facial function, appearance and communication of emotions. The objective of the project is to develop a working prototype and trial (through proof-of concept clinical studies) an inconspicuous, non-invasive wearable device (indistinguishable from normal spectacles) that provides discreet feedback on facial muscle movement and helps patients to continuously practise facial muscle exercises.


Impact, acceptability and cost-effectiveness of identifying infectious diseases amongst migrants in primary care

As part of a new strategy in Leicester, UK, people born overseas will be offered testing for certain infectious illnesses when they register with a GP in the city. We aim to find out whether this will result in GPs identifying more people with these illnesses.


Identification of novel double-stranded RNA elements in developing antibiotic resistance in the agricultural environment

The goal of the project is to identify and subsequently characterise the dsRNA dimension of the animal gut microflora (both the differential presence of antisense bound to mRNA and phage dsRNAs containing novel genetic information in response to AB pressure). Identification of novel functional dsRNAs (asRNA bound to its target and phage dsRNAs involved in AR) will mark a paradigm shift in our understanding of the development of AR and future approaches to treating infections.
