Transnational programme strengthens UK-South Africa academic collaboration

Coventry University continues to reinforce its commitment to international academic partnerships through the 'Transforming Staff Doctorate Research' programme, which includes the university hosting ten doctoral students from South Africa on an eight-week sabbatical.
The strategic and collaborative effort led by the Centre for Global Learning joins forces with Stellenbosch University (SU) and Walter Sisulu University (WSU), South Africa. The initiative is part-funded by the South African Department of Higher Education and Training and the British Council, offering postgraduate researchers a unique, international dual award.
The programme illustrates Coventry University's dedication to fostering global educational partnerships and enhancing higher education on a global scale. By working closely with SU and WSU, Coventry University aims to build a robust transnational academic community that leverages diverse perspectives and expertise.
The doctoral students participating in the programme will engage in various academic activities, including workshops, writing retreats, research meetings, and seminars. This immersive experience will facilitate significant progress in their studies while fostering a deeper understanding of global educational practices.
Professor Richard Dashwood, Vice-Provost (Research and Enterprise) and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research), who welcomed the students alongside colleagues from the university’s Centre for Global Learning, Professor Katherine Wimpenny (programme lead for Coventry) Dr Que Anh Dang and Dr Luca Morini, emphasised the importance of this collaboration:

The programme focuses on critical themes such as equality, diversity, inclusion, wellbeing, transnationalisation and developing creative spaces in higher education learning. These themes reflect the strategic educational priorities of the collaborating institutions and aim to address cross-cutting educational issues.
By cultivating a deep understanding and appreciation of diverse academic methodologies, Coventry University continues to pave the way for innovative educational models and joint doctoral partnerships.
