The inventive artform know as automatic drawing has proved an interesting challenging for one final year Fine Art student from Coventry University.

Chiara Lauren Grant, 31, from Coventry, has created a series of drawing for her final Degree Show project using this artform that creates images in an organic and unrestrained way.

Part of the surrealist’s art movement, automatic drawing was developed as a means of expressing the subconscious. By allowing the hand to move freely across the paper the idea is that the drawing created may reveal something of the artists psyche.

Chiara said:

“I took on this challenging project to best showcase my work and show my artistic range. I believe automatic drawings to still be of interest today and it has helped me obtain a method of working that has really proved my talent as an artist.”

Chiara’s drawings will be on show in the art studio space in Graham Sutherland building, Gosford Street, Coventry from 1st - 11th June 2012.
