Coventry University Group has formally launched its China Hub after appointing Guy Dru Drury MBE as Managing Director.

Guy will spearhead the new Hub in Beijing as the university group works to build relationships across China and further afield in Asia.

The China Hub is part of the global education group’s network of Global Hubs providing a presence close to its stakeholders in key regions and markets. The team based in the Chinese capital will help grow the group’s collaborations and customers for its teaching, research and innovation expertise.

The group already has a joint institute with the Communication University of China, based at a purpose-built campus on Hainan Island.

Guy has more than 15 years' experience working with governments and companies in the UK, China and Asia Pacific region and was Chief Representative in China for The Confederation of British Industry (CBI).

He is a fluent Chinese speaker and in 2017 was awarded an MBE for service to business between the UK and China. Away from work he is a keen triathlete and has competed in Olympic, Half and Full Ironman disciplines.

I’m thrilled to have joined Coventry University Group as MD of the new China Hub, this really is a fantastic opportunity for us to build closer, mutually beneficial ties in the region.

Having a presence in China will help us to develop key relationships with universities and other organisations in the country and having a physical presence like this right in the centre of Beijing’s business centre also gives us fantastic local knowledge as a university. China is still the world’s largest market for recruitment and transnational education.

It will promote the university group’s research, education and enterprise and innovation work through the development of closer relationships with embassies, government bodies, research institutes, universities and private sector entities.

The opening adds to Coventry University Group’s extensive network of international hubs.

Working in collaboration with universities and other organisations across the globe is part of our DNA and fostering important international relationships helps improve research practices both in the UK and abroad. We’re delighted to be further building on our forward-thinking global vision.

Professor John Latham CBE, Vice-Chancellor and CEO of Coventry University Group

Opening our new hub in China will serve to boost our presence in the country, while having a physical office also enables us to better stay in touch with educational developments. This is an exciting moment for us and will help us to develop productive collaborations with organisations in China.
