Academic and General Regulations

The Academic and General Regulations must be observed strictly. They are set with the approval of the Board of Governors and the Academic Board of Coventry University. The Board of Governors and the Academic Board reserve the right to introduce new Regulations or amend the existing Regulations at any time.

Your undertaking to comply with them is a condition of your enrolment as a student of the University.

Questions arising on the interpretation of any statement in these Regulations shall be resolved by the Group Registrar and Secretary. In the event of a conflict between the provisions of the General Regulations and other information given to students, the General Regulations shall prevail.

This section outlines the University’s regulatory framework.

Section 2: Principles Underlying the Regulatory Framework

This section outlines the principles underlying the regulatory framework – including the approval and review of courses, assessment and how it is used to demonstrate learning outcomes and the development and approval of partnerships with other institutions and accrediting bodies.

Section 3: List of Current Academic Awards and Other Distinctions

This section lists all current academic awards offered by the University – including Honorary Awards, Edexcel, European Awards, Posthumous and Aegrotat Awards.

Section 4: Regulations for the Admission of Students

This section outlines the considerations taken by the University when assessing applications for admission onto a course.

Section 5: Regulations for the Assessment of Students

This section outlines the regulations that support the assessment of students – including the purpose of learning outcomes, the role of examiners and external examiners, the responsibility of students and the application of extenuating circumstances.

Section 6a and 6c: Regulations for the Undergraduate Curriculum Framework

This section outlines the undergraduate credit framework – it applies to all courses on the Undergraduate Curriculum Framework leading to a Coventry University undergraduate award. It includes the conditions of being awarded and how award classifications are calculated.

Section 7c: Regulations for Taught Postgraduate Awards

This section outlines the postgraduate credit framework – it applies to all courses on the postgraduate Curriculum Framework leading to a Coventry University postgraduate award. It includes the conditions of being awarded and how award classifications are calculated.

Sections 8-9: Regulations for Postgraduate Research Degrees, Higher Doctorates and Doctor of Philosophy Degrees by publication.

These awards are not currently offered by the CU Coventry.

The section outlines the regulations for the conferment of awards – including those required to be present at a conferment of an award, the purpose and presentation of a certificate of award and how and when an award may be revoked.

General Regulations

Section 1: General Matters

This section outlines the responsibilities of both students and the University during the period of study – namely the expectation that students will attend classes, take steps to notify the University of any absences, discharge their financial obligations to the University and maintain current contact information. It also covers the conditions for progression on a course and the ownership of intellectual property rights. This section also confirms those circumstances beyond the University’s reasonable control whereby the University shall not be liable for any delay or failure to perform, any of the University Group’s obligations in relation to the provision of courses and related services.

This section outlines the University’s expectations in how students will conduct themselves whilst undertaking a course at the University. This section also outlines the University’s responsibility and commitment in ensuring that the campus is a safe and positive space where everyone feels able to achieve their best.
