Modular Acceleration Programme (MAP)

Why choose the Modular Acceleration Programme?

The Modular Acceleration Programme (MAP) is your opportunity to gain valuable qualifications, skills and training to support your chosen career path or pursue a business idea, by completing one module of a Higher Technical Qualification (HTQ).

Key benefits for eligible applicants* are:

grant-funded tuition fees (tuition fees will be paid for by a grant given directly to us)
the ability to build credits towards a full HTQ
convenient sessions that aim to fit around work, childcare or other responsibilities
the opportunity to complete a module of a HTQ without committing to the full course.

MAP overview

Developed by the Department for Education (DfE) and ahead of the launch of the Lifelong Learning Entitlement (LLE) (January 2026); the Modular Acceleration Programme is an opportunity to join a UK government-led programme to deliver individual stackable modules of Higher Technical Qualifications (HTQs).

The MAP aims to accelerate the availability of individual HTQ modules, this means that you will be able to access specific modules for reskilling or upskilling in sectors that particularly need those skills and qualifications.

Please note: if you’re successfully accepted on to the MAP and in receipt of MAP funding, the DfE will invite you to participate in research and evaluation of the programme. Further details will be provided when you get your offer.

How does the MAP work?

As a part-time student, each module totals 30 credits over a six-week period (block) on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.

A typical 30 credit module requires a total of 300 hours study. This is made up of teaching contact hours, guided and independent study.

Assessment

This module will make use of formative and summative work to both develop and assess students.

The Coventry University Group's assessment strategy ensures fair and consistent evaluation of our courses, enabling us to accurately monitor student progress towards achieving the intended learning outcomes.

Once you have successfully completed the module and assessments, you’ll be awarded a full certificate as proof of your success and if you meet all the progression requirements, you could explore opportunities to study a full HTQ.

Am I eligible for the MAP?

You are eligible for the MAP’s grant-funded tuition fees if you are:

are aged between 19 and 60
live in England
live outside of England but work in England and are eligible for the Lifelong Learning Entitlement (LLE).

Eligibility criteria for the MAP and the LLE are decided by the DfE, not Coventry University. The criteria track the existing higher education (HE) student finance nationality and residency rules.

If you do not meet these criteria then you will not be eligible for funding however, you can apply to self-finance.

You are eligible to self-finance so long as you meet the entry requirements outlined below.

How to apply

If you’re interested in applying for the MAP, you’ll need to apply to us directly by completing our online application form. Apply for the MAP.

Once your application form has been processed, we will contact you to advise you of the next steps. You’ll receive the outcome of your application via the email address you provided.

International applicants

If you already have a visa that allows you to live, work or study in England, you can apply to study for the modules if you self-finance and meet the entry requirements shown below.

Please note the university is unable to provide sponsorship for single modules.

If you want to travel to England and apply for the MAP, you will need a visa.

Key details

What are the entry requirements?

64 UCAS tariff points.
Minimum 5 GCSEs graded 9-4 / A* - C including maths and English.
Minimum two A2 levels or BTEC equivalent qualification.

We understand that barriers may make it more challenging for some applicants to achieve the course entry requirements. Our aim is to reduce the barriers that may be preventing access to higher education by looking beyond the grades that you have already got or expect to get.

Fees and funding

How is the MAP funded?

Successful applicants could have their tuition fees paid for (subject to availability and you meeting the eligibility criteria).

These tuition fees will come out of your Lifelong Learning Entitlement account, which means you will have less available for future education or training pathways you may want to follow.

Remember! The MAP will only cover the tuition fees involved in your studies and further costs might be incurred but are not included.

MAP evaluation, research and data collection

The Department for Education (DfE) does regular research and surveys to support the development and delivery of their policies. You will be invited to take part in some of this research to learn about your experiences of completing a module under the Modular Acceleration Programme. Further details about your expected involvement will be provided at the offer stage.
